an overdue post.

So I'm fairly certain that with less than two months to go, I've never actually posted about my color scheme. I'm sure you could figure it out based on some of my other posts (like the bridesmaids dresses, groomsmen attire, etc.) but I never officially posted about it. To tell you the truth, I was too lazy to find the correct shades of all the colors and put them together. Don't ask me why, because it probably would have taken all of five minutes, but I didn't do it. But yesterday when I checked my mail, my color scheme was sitting right there on the front page of the Crate and Barrel Fall Preview catalog. So I figured since they put it together for me, I might as well share it with all of you!

Plum purple, teal blue, olive green, and white. That would be our color scheme friends! Apparently it is on trend at the moment, which is funny since I picked it out last summer. It's also funny because several people have given me looks like "are you sure?" or say things like "oh, that's interesting" when I tell them about our colors. If Crate and Barrel thinks it's cool, then I'm cool with it too. How about you?

Did you find your color scheme to be more "on trend" than you expected? I'll admit it's kind of nice, since now it's not so hard to find things in these colors to use for decor purposes!

a unique fall color scheme.

My cousin Heather is planning a fall 2010 outdoor wedding, and has asked me to help her plan it! She wants to incorporate some of the traditional fall colors. I found this gorgeous color scheme on one of my favorite blogs, 100 Layer Cake that I think would be perfect for a beautiful fall affair. It incorporates some of the traditional fall colors (red and gold) while bringing in a some unexpected shades of plum and midnight blue.
I am in love. That is, if it's possible to be in love with a color scheme? I think it is.

navy and lavender.

Kathryn from Snippet and Ink posted yet another fabulous inspiration board today, this time in navy and lavender. Since this is the color scheme my MOH Dona has chosen for her wedding this May, I figured I would post it to show her how pretty it will be! Only 3.5 months Dona! Can't wait!

initial inspiration.

My bridesmaid Dana just got engaged on Jan. 2nd! I'm so excited for her! She has asked me to stand in her wedding, so I think it's my duty to give her some inspiration to get going on the wedding planning. She's still trying to determine a color scheme (among other more important things, such as the date and the location of the wedding) so we looked at some pictures tonight while watching Grey's and I put some color boards together.

The first one is based on a picture she had seen of a bouquet with indigo, aqua, and orange flowers. I didn't have the exact picture, but we found something similar to start out with. I added a little green in the mix as well. I think it definitely has potential!
The next one is a little more classic, and I think it will go well with her fiance's uniform (he's a Marine). Slate blue/gray, gold, and white.
Which do you like best?

craspedia.

One alternative color scheme I considered for a long time was gray and yellow. It is just so modern and elegant. While looking for branches for our wishing tree tonight, I came upon this flower called the craspedia. While they don't look like your typical flower, I think they would be the perfect element to add to a simple and modern gray and yellow wedding.

my first attempt.

Last week, while I was visiting my family in Michigan for Thanksgiving, I had to meet with some potential decorators, the florist, etc. While sitting at the kitchen counter on Tuesday night after I driving home, I put together some pictures to explain my wedding vision. Here's my first attempt at an inspiration board for my own wedding.
What do you think?

my best friend's wedding part tres.

So Dona asked me to create another board using a navy and yellow color scheme. She is going to try to get past the fact that her high school colors are navy and gold. Get over it :)
What do you think? Do you have a favorite color palette so far?

my best friend's wedding part deux.

Here's the next color choice for Dona's wedding. Green, navy, and white. Do you have a preference between the two?
By the way, I'm liking this inspiration board idea. Maybe I should make one for my own wedding sometime soon! Especially since I'll be meeting with decorators when I go home for Thanksgiving! I'll work on that.

my best friend's wedding.

So my matron of honor, Dona, and I were discussing color schemes for her wedding tonight. Since we've already purchased our bridesmaids dresses, navy and white have to be in the color scheme. Dona thought pink might be a good color to pair with them. I put together an inspiration board to see what it could look like. Go easy on me, it's my first time making one! What do you think?

bridesmaids dresses.

While we were at David's Bridal this weekend, we had some extra time to look at some bridesmaids dresses. Dani and Gaby found one that I think might have potential. And it comes in colors very close to my original color scheme.

Here are the dresses from the website. The purple one is much deeper color in person (more plum, less royal purple). Here are the dresses on my sisters. Keep in mind Gaby's dress is about 5 sizes too big. I think it looks better with the bows tied in the back rather than in the front. Here is a close-up of the colors. I think they're really rich and will look great since its a fall wedding, without being the standard reds, oranges, browns that most people use during the fall season.I was originally going to let you girls all choose a dress style that you liked the best in the same color/fabric. We can definitely still go about it that way if you prefer. If we went with these dresses, I think they would be flattering on all of you. I'm thinking it would be cool to do all three colors, and you guys could choose the color you prefer (as long as there was a mix of all of them or at least 2 of them). Here's an idea of what it might look like. Again the purple on here is much different.
What do you guys think? Do you like this dress? Please be honest! I want you guys to feel comfortable in what you wear that day. The dresses are pretty reasonably priced, at $135 each. Would you wear it again to a holiday party, new years, another wedding? Again be honest, I want your opinion!

well hello there.

I am sort of embarrassed to admit that I've started a blog. Nothing wrong with blogs, I just never thought that I would want to write one. That is, until I got engaged. There are so many great wedding blogs out there that I've found in the past month that I wanted to create one of my own. It doesn't help that my job isn't exactly a creative outlet for me at the moment. I've also noticed that pretty much every wedding blog I've seen assumes that you are having your wedding in a place where there's actually a selection of reception halls, florists, etc. to choose from. Which is not the case in the booming metropolis of Iron Mountain, Michigan, which is where I happen to be getting married.

This blog will also help me to get some input from my bridesmaids, who are currently spread out all over the place! They will probably be the only ones who end up reading this anyway, and most likely not because they want to. Love you girls :)

So I have a few things going on with the wedding plans right now that are probably noteworthy, but this first one is the thing I have been pondering the longest. What color scheme should I use for the wedding? I've been going back and forth between a few different combinations, but I keep coming back to the same one.

A greenish blue, a pinkish purple, and very light green. What do you think?

I'd like to have colors that are interesting and original.I don't want anything trendy. I don't want anything that I'll look back on in 20 years and regret not choosing something more classic like black and white. I realize wedding colors aren't the most important decision I'll have to make in the next year, but they do set the tone for everything else that has to be done. Dresses, invitations, decorations, and favors all have to coordinate. I find myself wanting to get other things done but I keep coming back to this same issue every time! So bridesmaids, please help me to decide :)
