We learned the very very basic steps of the rumba, foxtrot, waltz, and the hustle. We very quickly decided that we are not fans of the hustle. The rest were enjoyable though. I kind of like using the whole floor in the foxtrot! Our instructor was a fun guy and was pretty outgoing, which is just what we needed to break out of our shells a bit (we are engineers after all). He did a lot of the "BAM", "BOOM", "POW" business (apparently channeling his inner Black Eyed Peas?) but we'll forgive him for that.
At the end of the lesson, while we definitely didn't feel as though we were ready for the real deal, we at least had the confidence that we are capable of pulling it off. The instructor told Mr. M that he had a really strong posture (and kept calling him Tom, since apparently he resembles Tom Cruise) and that I dance really "light"... which I guess is a good thing because it means I'm not dragging my man around the dance floor. Go us!
We ended up signing up for an additional four lessons, and I'm pretty excited about it! Our next lesson is tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it goes!
Did anyone else decide to brush up on their dancing skills before the big day?

I'm sure you and "Tom" will look magnificent dancing to your first dance. I'm very impressed that he was willing to do the lessons!
We are getting ready to take dance lessons as well . . . I am sure we wont get the same compliments as you all. My fiance dances by bouncing up and down (no joke, like a 3 year old) . . . and I have never really been a dancer either . . . so we shall see how it goes.
Wow, I'm a quick one... I just first noticed you are Miss Mascara! I thinking about possibly applying to blog. Do you get more response from your posts on WeddingBee or here on your own blog? Just curious...
Tony and I took 4 private lessons and learned how to dance the fox trot to our first song. We had a ton of fun. And I think our dance looked pretty decent for only 4 lessons and some basic steps.
Did they teach you the Poot? Maybe during your last class, its a Level 10 dance after all. It's so hard, I've actually never seen anyone do it on Dancing With The Stars.
hihi I know what you're talking about ;-)
We decided to get dance lessons as well and it was all worth it...
@ Anonymous: Nope we didn't learn "the Poot" yet. I would imagine it would be a difficult dance, we're just not at that level yet. Maybe you can teach us, Mr. Groomsman.
