bridesmaid times two.

This summer I have the pleasure of standing in not one but two of my friends' weddings (both of them are standing in my wedding as well). I must admit, it's kind of fun to be planning our weddings at the same time. We are all in the same boat, and whenever everyone else is tired of hearing about the weddings, we have each other to talk to!

Dana's wedding is in October, so I'll have a month to recover after our wedding. We recently picked out our bridesmaids dresses. We had a great time trying to find the perfect one, stopping at a few Chicago establishments along the way of course. We selected
strapless satin dresses from the Vineyard Collection in Pewter. I think they will look beautiful, don't you?
Dona's wedding is in May, and I am the maid of honor. You know what that means... yep, the speech. I feel like the maid of honor speech never quite measures up to the best man's for some reason. I'm struggling with what I'm going to say. I want it to be short, sweet, and to the point, with a little bit of humor thrown in as well. Easier said than done. And it's only two months away! I need to figure out what I'm going to say soon so I can practice, practice, practice because public speaking is not my forte. If anyone has any advice, I'm all ears! What was the most memorable wedding speech you've ever heard? If you've given a speech of your own, where did you turn for inspiration?

Hi! I was the MOH last year and I dug through a box of old "notes" the kind you passed back and forth in high school and read through a good amount of them and literally my speech wrote itself, I talked about the bride and meeting her man(which was in high school as well) and had some funny stories inserted which i only remembered because of the notes i found. I also added a lot of humor and ended with an irish blessing. the bride loved it and I got tons of compliments from guests. My advice would make it funny & sweet and 1 page long! haha good luck!

I have to agree, it always seems that the maid of honor's speech never measures up to the best man's speech. But I think everyone also expects the best man's speech to be humorous and goofy.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot to offer. I am a TERRIBLE public speaker. I get so nervous! The only thing that helped me when I had to give a speech at a wedding was to have a couple beverages before hand (just enough to have a slight buzz) so that I wasn't shaking and trembling while giving the speech. That was probably the best I have ever done while public speaking.

Good luck!

Oh me and the other bridesmaids of Jessie need to have a speech as well. I think we are lucky that we are a party of four...
But getting the spech done will be a challenge as well ;-)

LOVE the dress!!! I've only written a maid of honor speech for an actual speech class - but I made it about my best friend and as real as possible. I pretended she was marrying her boyfriend and talked about the beginning of their relationship... and my relationship with them as a couple...and tried to be really funny.

Best of luck for the speech - i'm sure you'll be fine!
I am planning my wedding at the same time as my friend, Mel. It's so much fun, I love sharing this with someone else (well, other than Dave ;) )
